BUSINESS support agencies in Yorkshire have launched a £2,500 hunt for the region's top entrepreneur.

The Biz Awards have been launched to recognise the achievements of businesses in the region.

Awards will be made to the best new start-up, the best social enterprise, the fastest-growing business, the most innovative business and the best entrepreneur.

The awards will by presented on June 29 at the Royal Armouries in Leeds. The winner of the best entrepreneur award will receive a cash prize of £2,500.

The awards have been organised by business support agencies, including The Prince's Trust, regional development agency Yorkshire Forward, Business Link West Yorkshire and the Business Enterprise Fund.

Stephen Waud, fund director for the BEF, said entrants to the Biz Awards would have to demonstrate how they had overcome the odds to set up their businesses.

This may include being turned down by the high street banks, not receiving support for their idea but still making a success of it, or overcoming skills shortages.
