FEWER than a third of Yorkshire firms think the Government is pursuing the right strategies to back UK manufacturing.

While 94% of firms value the Government’s message that manufacturing is essential to the UK economy, they do not see policy pledges translating to concrete change.

BDO’s Manufacturing the Future survey showed that 71% of firms predict the economic outlook with improve over the next 10 years, but half of them fear that manufacturing will not be a core sector of the UK economy by that time.

The survey calls for measures including the creation of an industrial bank, a new focus by the education system on manufacturing skills and a more supportive tax system.
