TOURISM chiefs in Yorkshire believe the credit crunch could be good for business.

The regions aims to cash in as holidaymakers opt for domestic destinations in the face of unfavourable exchange rates and constraints on spending power.

Now the Yorkshire Tourist Board is urging local businesses – including hotels, bed-and- breakfasts, pubs and restaurants, museums and theme parks – to raise their game and make sure visitors can book online.

Tourism operators in Yorkshire can get online by using Guestlink, a regional destination management system backed by development agency Yorkshire Forward.

A spokesman said: “Guestlink is reaping returns for Yorkshire tourism businesses with more than £2.9m of revenue being generated and more than 20,000 bookings made.”
