A BEDS retailer with a store in Huddersfield is set to create 260 jobs with a major expansion drive throughout Yorkshire.

Dreams, which opened its first store in Yorkshire earlier this year at Phoenix Retail Park, off Leeds Road, aims to open 30 new superstores across the region and a distribution depot in Castleford.

The company said the expansion plan followed the success of its Huddersfield store and its second Yorkshire store in Halifax. It also has outlets in Wakefield, Barnsley and Sheffield.

The drive is part of a nationwide expansion plan to create more than 500 jobs in retail, distribution and head office posts.

Chief executive Nick Worthington said: “Despite the tough economic climate, our store opening programme remains strong across the UK.

“Yorkshire has been identified as a region with great growth potential and by the summer of 2010 we will have provided the whole of Yorkshire with a choice of convenient locations in which to find their dream bed.”

Dreams was launched by founder Mike Clare in 1987 with the opening of a store in west London.

By 2000, the company had 50 stores and two years later was operating 67 outlets as well as its own mattress factory.

The firm, which bills itself as Britain's leading bed specialist, is a three-time winner in the Furniture of the Year Awards.
