COMPANIES will get top tips on bidding for work with the public sector at an event in Huddersfield.

Kirklees and Calderdale councils have joined forces to stage the How to Do Business with the Public Sector event on Wednesday, March 4, at the Cedar Court Hotel, Ainley Top.

The event, staged with Business Link Yorkshire, will enable businesses to learn more about the opportunities for supplying goods and services to local councils and other public sector buyers, including the NHS, West Yorkshire police and Huddersfield University.

Clr Christine Stanfield, Kirklees Council’s lead cabinet member for regeneration, said: “Kirklees Council is very supportive of our local businesses and this is a brilliant way to inform them of the process of they need to go through to secure council contracts.”

A council spokesman said: “Putting together tenders for public sector contracts can be daunting and complicated.

“Companies have to meet a range of standards before they can apply to tender for public bodies. The event aims to help them meet those standards and through a series of workshops and discussions encourage them to become ‘tender ready’.”
