A MAJOR drive to boost community spirit in Yorkshire’s towns and cities gets under way next month.
The Yorkshire and Humber Association of Civic Societies will hold a week of activities in June to highlight the efforts of civic societies – including ones in Huddersfield, Holme Valley, Honley, Colne Valley, Mirfield and Brighouse – to champion the best in building, conservation and environmental schemes.
Societies from across the region will take part in the events, which begin on Saturday, June 21. The launch event will be hosted by the fledgling Barnsley Civic Society at The Digital Media Centre in Barnsley.
Kevin Trickett, president of the Yorkshire and Humber association, said: “This is a perfect opportunity for civic societies in the region to showcase their work and activities to a wider community and help drum up support.”
