AN Elland firm providing fitting out pubs, hotels and restaurants had landed its biggest-ever order.

Andy Thornton Ltd, based at Ainleys Industrial Estate, has won a £3m deal to fit-out a private dining suite at a five-star hotel in Chester.

The Westminster suite at the Chester Grosvenor and Spa will close for 12 weeks in June for the work to take place. It will re-open in September.

Andy Thornton has previously worked for the hotel.

Chris Wilcock, contracts director for Andy Thornton, said: "We are delighted to continue our long-standing association with the Chester Grosvenor and are very pleased that they have the confidence to use us on such an extensive refurbishment."

Andy Thornton, which was the subject of a management buy-out 18 months ago, now has its largest-ever order book at £7.3m.

This includes work for the Sandringham Hotel in Great Yarmouth, the third phase of the Fashion House Shopping Centre in Warsaw, Poland, and a contract to fit-out a bar in Breda, Netherlands.

The company's architectural antiques division has provided bar fittings for Lawlor's Bar in Dublin, while the products division has launched a range of outdoor dining furniture.

Andy Thornton also reported "huge interest" in its metalwork canopies and gazebos from pub and restaurant operators in the run-up to the smoking ban in England, which comes into effect in July.

Andy Thornton, which also has a showroom at Victoria Mills in West Vale, is a former winner of the Queen's Award for Export Achievement.

Among previous contracts, it has completed work for prestigious bars and hotels in places like Miami, Chicago, and Moscow.
