COMPANIES in Huddersfield have been urged to remove all but one bin from the office next week.

The move is show how much waste paper staff produce in an average day.

Firms have been invited to take part in One Bin Day on Thursday to encourage greater re-use of paper and recycling.

They can sign up to show they are taking part by visiting www.envirowise.gov.uk/onebinday

The scheme is being run by the Government-backed environmental advice organisation Envirowise.

A spokesman said firms could use One Bin Day to conduct a quick office audit by walking around to identify the different types of waste they produce.

They could also encourage staff to give ideas on how to increase sustainability in the workplace.

They could also designate one printer for internal office use only and load it with misprinted, but still useable paper. Companies could promise to use emails to communicate with staff rather than printing out circulars.

And firms could also check that they have recycling facilities for all common types of waste, such as paper, card, glass and metals.
