A TRAINING provider has linked up with the West Yorkshire Probation Trust to provide training for more than 100 prisoners and ex-offenders.

BOSS Training, which specialises in working at height and safety training courses, joined The Corporate Alliance in 2007 and has since worked on a number of projects for the probation board, including helping prisoners and ex-offenders to develop a among other things, a DVD about working with employers to find job opportunities and provide training for ex-offenders.

BOSS Training has worked with ex-offenders in the Yorkshire region and across the UK, helping them gain qualifications for real job opportunities. Some of the courses provided include training on using scaffold towers, scissor lifts, cherry-pickers and first aid.

Debbie Clark, regional employer engagement manager for the Yorkshire and Humber Probation Service, said BOSS Training’s instructors were particularly good at being able to empathise with delegates from a diverse range of backgrounds.

Many ex-offenders taking part in the training have gone on to find work as a direct result of the support provided by BOSS Training.

The Corporate Alliance works with employers to find feasible employment opportunities for ex-offenders in labour-based sectors. Finding a job is one of the factors that can significantly reduce re-offending rates by up to 50%.

Andy Murphy, managing director at BOSS, said he was pleased to be able to help reduce re-conviction amongst ex-offenders.
