A WASTE management company in Huddersfield has completed a key takeover.

Bradley Park Waste Management Ltd – based at Calder Trading Estate in Bradley – has acquired Ravensthorpe-based waste management company Chemwaste Ltd for an undisclosed sum.

The takeover, funded by The Co-operative Bank, includes Chemwaste’s Low Mill Lane premises where 20 workers have also switched employer.

BPWM provides transportation, testing and disposal for a wide range of hazardous waste and operates one of the UK’s largest hazardous waste landfills at Bradley Park.

For the past 25 years, family business Chemwaste, has provided waste management and environmental services, including the collection, treatment and transfer of hazardous and non-hazardous waste from organisations ranging from single shops to large-scale manufacturers.

BPWM said its acquisition of Chemwaste Ltd would allow the company to expand its core services to include the collection and treatment of waste to be processed by the company to reduce toxicity and retrieve recyclable elements for resale before residual waste is transferred to landfill.

BPWM managing director Simon Towers said: “We are delighted with the support of The Co-operative Bank, without which this acquisition would not have been possible.

“The bank has provided valuable funding and advice at a time when such support is hard to find.”

He said: “This is an exciting time for BPWM – with the acquisition of Chemwaste Ltd marking the first step in our ambitious development plans for the business.

“Thanks to ongoing support from the bank, we hope this will be the first of many.”

Mr Towers added: “Chemwaste Ltd has been trading for more than 25 years and has a strong reputation in the sector, as well as an established client base.

“We hope to build on the company’s successes under the BPWM brand – helping us to become one of the UK’s leading integrated waste management services, providing a wider range of high quality waste treatment and disposal services.”

Steve Lomax, senior corporate manager at The Co-operative Bank, said: “We pride ourselves on our tried and trusted strategy of starting and maintaining mutually beneficial relationships with our corporate customers over the long term.

“Bradley Park Waste Management is an innovative company with a good track record and a strong management team with big ambitions and we are delighted to support them in their exciting plans for the future.”

Chemwaste Ltd was established in 1981 and has provided quality waste disposal services throughout the UK ever since.

The company moved to its premises at Ravensthorpe Industrial Estate in 1994.
