BUILDING industry bosses in Huddersfield are missing out on as chance to snap up talented students, it is claimed.

Almost 1,000 young people looking to take a construction degree have applied to the Inspire scholarship scheme run by sector skills council ConstructionSkills.

Some 85 of these are from Yorkshire – but so far only two potential local employers signed up.

Inspire matches employers with a shortlist of young people looking for support. Firms can offer promising students a 10-week placement during the first year of their degree course.

At the end of their degree, the students are available to be recruited as permanent employees.

Under the scheme sponsoring companies provide up to £4,500 over the course of the degree, which is matched by Inspire to make a package worth up to £9,000. Firms also have the option to offer more time on placement if you have the capacity.

Companies have until May 31 to register for the scheme. Contact Sarah Lambert on 01509 282885 or go to scholarship@cskills.org
