DEMAND for highly-skilled people will strengthen during the recovery, claims a survey today.
But bosses fear they will not be able to find people with the skills they need to fill high-level jobs.
The survey of almost 700 firms together employing 2.4m showed 51% of employers were worried about being able to find people at the right graduate level or higher skills in the coming years.
A third of those polled didn’t think it would be possible to fill intermediate level jobs.
Some 30% predicted the need for lower-level skills would decrease against just 17% expecting an increase.
Some 45% of employers said they were already finding it hard to recruit staff with skills in science, technology, engineering and maths – with manufacturers and science-related businesses the worst affected.
Andrew Palmer, CBI regional director for Yorkshire, said: “In the future, people with qualifications in science and maths will be particularly sought after and firms say it is already hard to find people with the right technical or engineering skills.
“The new government must make encouraging more young people to study science-related subjects a top priority.”
