FIRMS are being invited to follow the footsteps of some of the town’s most prominent companies by competing in the Examiner Business Awards.
And one of the coveted categories in the 2008 competition is for Business of the Year.
Linthwaite-based pharmaceutical manufacturer Thornton and Ross Ltd won the category last year.
Thornton and Ross Ltd, founded in 1922, is the UK’s largest independent pharmaceutical manufacturer.
The company counts some of the country’s most familiar household products among its range, including Covonia cough mixture, Hedrin, Asilone, Setlers, Transvasin and Mycota. It also makes Zoflora – the UK's leading disinfectant – and Stardrops multi-purpose cleaner.
The category is open to firms employing more than 250 people. The winner will have demonstrated a track record of business achievement, growing financial performance and evidence of a contribution to local prosperity.
This year, the category is sponsored by Fyshe Horton Finney. Founded in 1896, Fyshe Horton Finney Ltd is a well-established stockbroker and investment manager with offices throughout the UK.
Being the only stockbroker based in Huddersfield, Fyshe is proud to be associated with the Huddersfield Business Awards, an event that encourages and rewards local businesses.
Said a spokesman: "Fyshe’s clients can be assured of a first class service from a firm that offers bespoke solutions to personal financial circumstances. With access to stockbrokers rather than relationship managers, all clients can benefit from a wealth of experience, both in bull and bear markets."
Recently joining the firm as research director is Mike Estrey, who has more than 20 years experience within the industry. Mike moved from a leading London-based CFD provider, having decided to swap life in the City for the more pleasant surroundings of Yorkshire.
As well as execution only share dealing services, Fyshe also offer clients discretionary and advisory investment management; independent wealth management; traded options; global internet dealing in CFDs; futures and foreign exchange; SIPPS and ISA investment management and Islamic wealth management.
The Examiner Business Awards are sponsored by leading law firm Chadwick Lawrence and invite nominations for 11 categories.
