DEPARTMENT store John Lewis saw sales rise by 4% last week as “organised parents” buying well ahead of Christmas offset the impact of more unseasonal weather.
The employee-owned firm said toy sales in particular had picked up although fashion also saw “excellent” increases from children’s wear and women’s wear in the week to October 22.
Electrical and technology continued a strong run on white goods, computing and accessories, with both cooling and heating products doing well because of the uneven temperatures this month.
Website johnlewis.com lifted sales by less than the previous week at 21.8% while stores in Trafford, Leicester and Poole were the best performers. Supermarket arm Waitrose increased sales by 11.8%.
