A RETAIL industry survey has revealed a decline in the number of stores.
Figures from the British Retail Consortium showed a 0.5% fall during the second quarter of 2012 compared to the previous three months.
At the same time, retail employment for the second quarter rose by 1.8% – driven entirely by food retailers. The fastest growth was in part-time employment. Retail employment in the non-food sector fell.
But the proportion of retailers suggesting that they will cut staffing levels over the next quarter has fallen to just 4% compared with 25% for the same period last year.
