A COMPANY providing modular and portable buildings has teamed up with a Huddersfield IT systems support business.

Thurston Building Systems, based at Wakefield, brought in Lockwood-based P2 Technologies Ltd to upgrade its servers.

Thurston’s existing email platform was running on old server hardware which was slowing down business processes and affecting productivity.

P2 installed new server hardware and used an updated server system running virtualisation technology which consolidates multiple server roles onto one physical server, lowering physical server hardware costs and improving server utilisation and administration.

The Lockwood firm also moved the email system onto a new platform, giving Thurston increased mobile and flexible access to emails, enhanced security and improved management tools.

Craig Wolfenden, IT manager at Thurston, said: “We now have a much more powerful server system and we’re seeing the benefits of virtualisation.

“Our IT system is more efficient and it has enabled us to move our applications onto the new virtual servers without having to purchase additional physical servers. Virtualisation is improving server flexibility with less hardware.

“Staff can now access the company email system when out of the office.”

Martin Page, director of P2 Technologies, said: “Thurston Building Systems now have a scalable server platform in which to deploy server roles without additional physical server costs.

“From an IT manager perspective, server maintenance is improved and in a growing business virtualisation allows for rapid deployment of server roles as and when required.

“When installing the virtualised server system we worked closely with Craig to ensure the switch over went smoothly, backed with our ongoing support.”
