The company, which includes Vanish stain remover and cleaning product Cillit Bang among its products, posted pre-tax profits of £315m for the three months to June 30 against £258m a year.

It said first half comparable sales were up by 10% thanks to investment in its “power brands”.

The group said it plans to bring new products to market in the next six months, such as washing machine limescale remover Calgon Energis and Vanish Oxi Action Intelligence for tough stains and “invisible” grime.

Reckitt, the world’s biggest household goods firm, said strong demand for top brands such as Finish, Airwick, Strepsils and Nurofen Express were largely behind the profits surge.

The firm said it was on track to meet or better its full-year performance targets.
