A COUNTRY pub which was closed for three years has been given a new lease of life after a group of local businessmen joined forces to restore it to its former glory.
The Dale Inn in Denby Dale – formerly the Dalesman – has reopened after businessmen Steve Glover and Paul Radley rallied support from locals Cassie Turner, Dean Cockhill, Gary Wagstaff, Simon Adamski and Dave Colley, who had all frequented the pub over the years.
Mr Glover is a partner at G&T Accountancy Services Ltd in Denby Dale while Mr Radley, one of his clients, is managing director of PSR Industrial Flooring Ltd, also in Denby Dale.
The businessmen and their supporters worked with the pub’s owner, Northern brewers Thwaites, to reopen the pub and launch a new Thai restaurant, The Orchid House, as part of the hostelry. A joint £128,000 investment included an extensive internal and external refurbishment.
The run-down living quarters upstairs were converted into the new 50 seat restaurant, while the pub downstairs had a complete overhaul including new electrics, floors and toilets.
Harry and Jane Innes have been appointed to manage the day-to-day running of the pub. In total 13 jobs have been created.
Mr Glover said: “We were keen to reopen The Dale Inn as we wanted to invest in the local community and create jobs.
“We knew that with the right offer and people we could return the pub to its rightful place at the heart of the community.
“All the partners are from the local area and have invested their trade skills and money in to bringing the beautiful building into excellent working order once again for the people of Denby Dale.
“There is a genuine commitment towards The Dale Inn and Orchid House restaurant being a place where locals and visitors alike can enjoy traditional ales in a friendly, warm environment before and after a Thai fine dining experience. There are no other Thai restaurants nearby, so this is also a first for the local community.”
Andrew Buchanan, director of pub operations at Thwaites, said: “Following the departure of the previous tenants, we were committed to finding the right people with vision and investment to restore the pub to its former glory.
“Steve, Paul and their party have the business acumen and local knowledge required to make the pub a success once again.”
