TIMID would-be tycoons have been urged to attend a series of free advice sessions – and bring a friend for moral support!

Government-backed support organisation Business Link Yorkshire said: “Two of the barriers to starting a business can be finding a good idea and having confidence to take the first step.

“Now we have launched a new series of free workshops, one of which is on good ideas. And we are inviting aspiring entrepreneurs to attend these with a friend or supporter to give them confidence.”

The workshops in Huddersfield will run from 9.30am to 12.30pm on July 24 and September 10 at the Media Centre, Northumberland Street; and from 6pm to 9pm on August 14 and September 26 at the George Hotel, St George’s Square.

Business Link is encouraging accountants, lawyers, business advisers, friends and community workers to take the initiative and offer to take people to the workshops.

Jules O’Dor, director of enterprise services at Business Link Yorkshire, said: “We all know people who’ve been talking for ages about wanting to run their own business, but don’t know what they might do.

“These Business Ideas workshops help you see what skills you have that the market might need, identify trends that could make good business opportunities and carry out market research that could help you find good ideas.”

Mr O’Dor said Business Link had hundreds of other workshops for businesses at every stage of their development.

“Our new programme has topics from business planning to employing people, making sales and keeping customers to financial skills,” he said. “They are all free and running in locations that should be convenient to everyone in Yorkshire and Humber.”
