A FIRM in Huddersfield rescued from the receivers seven years ago has been hailed as is one of the UK's fastest-growing companies.

Deighton-based Easy Computers heads the rankings for north-east England in the Fast Track 100 annual league table.

It has also been placed 10th in the national list drawn up for the Sunday Times.

Easy Computers, based at Trident Business Park, Leeds Road, was recognised for its outstanding sales growth recent years.

The firm has increased telephone and online sales to £35.98m from just £1.7m in 2003.

Managing director Nick Glynne bought PC manufacturer Easy Computers from the receivers in 1999 for £3,000.

He reinvented the company as a high-volume internet-based distributor of laptops from suppliers such as Acer and Sony.

Earlier this year, the company - which has 33 employees - moved from premises at Queen's Mill Lane to a new 15,000sq ft unit at Trident Business Park.

Brighouse-based warehousing and distribution business Clipper Group Holdings was ranked 11th in the regional list and 98th overall.

Other strong performers in the region included Leeds-based agency Logistik; greeting card retailer Card Factory, of Wakefield; Silsden-based hair care products supplier ghd; and Leeds mail order fashion retailer Joe Browns.
