OUTSOURCING firm MITIE has reported a record order book as more companies look for help to cut energy bills and meet emission targets.

Energy services now account for a third of MITIE’s revenues through opportunities such as biomass plants, wind power and solar panels.

Across the group, which offers services including property management, cleaning, security and maintenance, MITIE’s profits increased by 15% to £105.7m in the year to March 31. Revenues rose by 10% to £1.9bn.

Major contract wins over the year included a Europe-wide deal for facilities and energy management with engines giant Rolls-Royce and a similar arrangement with mobile phone company Vodafone in the UK and Ireland.

MITIE has also increased its business in the public sector where cuts are increasing the market for outsourcing.

Recent energy project wins include a deal with supermarket Waitrose for its first biomass-powered store and a pilot project of photovoltaic panels on 200 social housing properties to provide free daytime electricity.
