A BRITISH engineering firm is to double in size after unveiling a deal to buy an American firm whose customers include Pratt & Whitney and Rolls-Royce.

MB Aerospace said its multimillion-pound takeover of Detroit-based Gentz Industries will create an international brand with annual revenues exceeding £51m.

The merged group will focus on the supply, manufacture and repair of highly complex machined and fabricated components for global aerospace and defence equipment manufacturers.

The addition of Gentz’s 250 strong workforce brings the total number of employees in the group to more than 400.

Burnley-based MBAe is run by 38-year-old chief executive Craig Gallagher, who acquired the business in 2007.
