"IT’S ACE," said Liz Feeny and Bev Sissons, co-founders of Ambitions4Kirklees when they heard that their company, which provides help for people with learning difficulties, had won.

"We didn’t expect this but we are delighted. We sank everything into our dream," said Liz.

That dream was to start a community interest company which would help young people with learning difficulties who had few options after completing full-time education.

"We feel vindicated that there is a need for what we do," they said. "The young people that we work with deserve this award."

Judges praised the Mirfield company for its wholehearted commitment to the young people who use its services and their success in helping them gain a sense of achievement.

Said Bev: "The work we do profiles the abilities of our young people and not their disabilities.

"We create opportunities where the skills they have developed can be shared with others and they are looked upon as someone with something to give – instead of someone to be pitied."

Also nominated for this category, sponsored by NHS Kirklees, were UP & Working and Disposables UK.
