COMPANIES that care about their workers are often the most successful.

Now bosses who put staff training and development at the top of their agenda are being recognised in the Examiner Business Awards 2009.

The Employer of the Year category was won last year by Brighouse-based Ploughcroft Building Services

Entrants will be asked to show why workforce development and training is important to the organisation, how training needs and skills requirements are assessed and addresses and the direct benefit gained by both individuals and the organisation.

Doctors and nurses from Huddersfield occupational health company PROHMS, which is sponsoring the category, see every day the effects of low motivation at work.

Working with companies, PROHMS improves staff morale, company image and staff benefits through providing one-to-one health and wellbeing consultations that concentrate on an individual’s work-life balance which often focuses on stress and physical and emotional pain associated with their work.

The team doesn’t just offer a reactive service, but works with companies and their employees to focus on a care approach. PROHMS believe this is a far more pro-active use of their service and produces positive results and environments where employers have a duty of care to employees.

Sandra Babbings, managing director of PROHMS, said: “Duty of care is very important and that is why we applaud any company that takes this seriously.

“Our values and commitments are very much based on the health and wellbeing of our staff so it’s important that we help to recognise other companies that strive to be a good employer and reward them for doing so.”

PROHMS is one of the leading providers of occupational health and wellbeing services to companies across all sectors and sizes within the North of England by providing a full range of pro-active support. PROHMS is a group of health professionals consisting of specialist doctors, nurses and Physio’s working to promote wellbeing in the workplace through reducing levels of sickness and absence.
