A deserving charity is set to benefit from tomorrow’s Examiner Business Awards.

Proceeds from this year’s charity raffle will be donated to West Yorkshire Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice, which provides care to children with life limiting or life threatening conditions and their families across the Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield area.

The charity was set up over 12 years ago as a result of the challenges of a local mum whose son became very ill and needed hospice care.

She was concerned about the lack of local support, so set about changing this, and so the charity was born.

Currently, the hospice cares for more than 50 children and their families using the hospice at Home service.

However, a recent study found that there are potentially over 700 children and families who could need their services across their covering areas.

As well as helping the child, the charity also provides support for the whole

family. Caring for a child with a life limiting condition can place immense strain on other family members, and to be offered a helping hand or caring voice when sought after can be priceless.

It costs about £2.5m a year to run the hospice – and with just 4% of this funding coming from the government; fundraising opportunities are vital.
