RETAIL parks and online traders received a boost from shoppers over Easter, a survey shows.

Figures from business information group Experian showed that the number of shoppers visiting retail parks rose by 7.8% during March compared with the same month last year – while Easter Monday was the fifth busiest day of the year so far for online retailers.

Across the retail sector as a whole shopper numbers rose by 1% year-on-year and by 0.1% compared with the previous month.

Yorkshire, which includes major retail parks such as Meadowhall and the White Rose Centre, reported a modest 0.2% rise in footfall year-on-year, but was one of only four UK regions to register an increase.

UK internet visits to shopping websites over the Easter weekend rose by 0.8% against the same period last year, but were 3.9% ahead on Easter Monday.

Top performers online included Amazon UK, Tesco Direct, John Lewis, Argos, Next and B&Q.
