BUSINESS failures among Yorkshire firms fell by nearly 10% during the final quarter of 2006, said a report.

However, the number of firms in the region going bust rose by 5.2% for the whole year, figures from business information group Equifax revealed.

Firms in Yorkshire fared better in 2006 than their counterparts in Scotland, Wales, eastern England, the south-east and the West Midlands.

Equifax director Neil Munroe suggested that many small firms remained vulnerable to bad debt and fraud.
