FOUR out of five manufacturing firms are imposing a pay freeze, figures just released reveal.
The survey, carried out by manufacturers’ group the EEF, showed that average pay settlements stood at 0.3% for the third quarter of the year.
It is the lowest level of pay settlements reported by employers in the sector since the EEF surveys began back in 1987.
The proportion of manufacturers reporting that they had frozen pay rose slightly during the quarter to almost 80%.
And the percentage saying they had deferred pay settlement was also slightly higher at just over 12%.
Alan Hall, of EEF Yorkshire, said there was very little sign of any change in the coming months.
