FUNERAL services firm Dignity has reported a 14% rise in profits and said its prospects looked strong in the year ahead.

Dignity, which owns Highfield Funeral Services in Huddersfield, posted profits of £34.3m for 2008 with revenues 10% higher at £175.8m.

Dignity, the UK’s only listed funerals firm, said it generated 70% of its business through recommendations and its reputation.

The firm conducted 68,700 funerals in 2008 – increasing its market share from 12% to 12.3%. Underlying operating profits for funeral services rose by 10% to £46.3m.
