HUDDERSFIELD customers of a national builders’ merchant chain will be among the first in the country to get access to a purpose-built training academy.

Gibbs & Dandy, which has premises at Manor Mills, Kings Mill Lane, said its Greenworks training academy in Birmingham aimed to deliver expert, hands-on training and qualification in sustainable building and renewable technologies.

The centre provides a range of training courses – from one-day awareness programmes to full City & Guilds qualifications.

Tania Tams, marketing director for Gibbs & Dandy, said: “We are delighted to offer our Huddersfield customers the opportunity to expand their skill set and – hopefully – become more profitable in what are economically challenging times.

“There are some fantastic opportunities at the moment in the sustainable building market, as homeowners are keen to save on household bills and not many installers in Huddersfield can offer these specialisms.

“At the academy, Huddersfield installers have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology before it’s even entered the marketplace, giving them a real chance to stay one-step ahead of the competition.”

Ms Tams said the one-day MCS course was proving particularly popular and is vital for start-up companies or businesses looking to expand into renewables, as this provides the gate key to feed-in tariffs, as well as the information and business acumen they need to grow in this sector.
