Rugby union star Lee Dickson has signed up with a Colne Valley textile firm.

The captain of Premiership team Northampton Saints has become a new brand ambassador for Glenbrae knitwear. The endorsement will promote the brand in new markets and is part of a recently devised strategy to broaden appeal and boost sales.

The ambassador role, which runs for two years, provides Glenbrae with another top sporting ambassador outside of the brand’s heritage in the golf market. Historically, Slaithwaite-based Glenbrae has enjoyed considerable success in the golfing world, with official endorsements from former Ryder Cup Captains Sam Torrance and Mark James.

Andrew Jones, general manager of Glenbrae said: “Quality and style are fundamental values for Glenbrae and being associated with such an accomplished sporting figure is an asset to our company.

“Rugby union is firmly rooted in British culture and bringing together our innovative garments with a well-respected sporting tradition is an exciting step for us.

“We like to be judged by the company we keep and this association will lend extra gravitas to the Glenbrae brand. Lee is a true champion and an extremely accomplished athlete.

“He’ll be a real asset to the Glenbrae name and we look forward to a long and successful partnership.”

Glenbrae’s hand-finished knitwear is marketed at sporting and corporate customers. Manufacture includes unique processes allowing for precision cresting and customisation, something of particular importance to these markets.
