EXPORTERS have enjoyed success in the current economic climate.

Surveys consistently show that companies trading in overseas markets have generally outperformed those firms doing business solely in their home market.

Now firms excelling in export markets can find recognition for their efforts in the Examiner Business Awards 2011 – by taking a tilt for the title of HSBC Commercial Banking International Business of the Year.

Judges will seek to reward a company that has overcome barriers to boost sales, create jobs and benefit the regional economy.

Last year’s category winner was Meltham-based Equi-Trek Ltd, which was recognised for exporting luxury horse trailers to top show jumpers across Europe.

The category is again sponsored by HSBC.

A spokeswoman for the bank said: “As part of our commitment to support local businesses, HSBC’s local commercial banking team is once again delighted to be sponsoring the International Business of the Year category at the Huddersfield Business Awards.

“At HSBC, we firmly believe that for many UK businesses, trading internationally can help drive success.

“We are already helping thinking businesses in countries far and wide capitalise on the opportunities that exist.

“As an international bank, we know that ‘global’ isn’t something every business manages overnight.

“But the reality is that increasing numbers of companies, from more countries and sectors than ever before, are trading internationally in some form or another.

“Whether trading means buying skills, innovation or goods, the concept of open borders for business has never been truer than today.

“Europe’s largest companies are world leaders in their sectors and take their suppliers with them as they enter markets across the globe.

“Many Yorkshire businesses who will be attending the Examiner Business Awards have been working to build business in fast-growing economies and at HSBC we are working closely with businesses across the world to help them shape their future success.

“These awards give you the opportunity to meet with like-minded businesses and provides a platform for building new contacts and sharing experiences.”
