HUDDERSFIELD businessman Ken Davy has been presented with a major award for his work to support the finance sector.

Mr Davy, best known as chairman of Huddersfield Giants, was recognised for his work as chairman of compliance and business support company SimplyBiz.

Mr Davy was named winner of Money Marketing’s Outstanding Contribution to the Industry Award.

The accolade recognises Mr Davy for his work to influence the shape of the financial services sector over the past few decades.

The citation said Mr Davy had helped financial advisers where they need it most – providing practical support, questioning regulation, and encouraging professionalism via the not-for-profit academy launched through SimplyBiz to help independent financial advisers achieve their financial services qualifications and share best practice.

“Mr Davy continues to be an innovator in the financial services sector,” it added.

The Giants chairman said: “I am delighted to receive this award.

“I think it reflects the commitment of a great many people to the cause of enhanced professionalism, for which I have fought for over 30 years.” He added: “I believe it is absolutely essential that, as we raise the bar, we ensure that current practitioners of good standing are able to continue to deliver their valuable services to their clients.”

New services introduced by SimplyBiz for IFAs over the past 12 months include exclusive accounting and “back office” software, specialised services for larger and more complex firms and a scheme to refund the cost of professional examinations passed successfully.

Mr Davy was also named in Management Today’s league of the top 100 British entrepreneurs. He was placed 23rd on the list, which included only five entries from the financial services sector.
