BANKS and businesses seeking finance came together at a one-day seminar in Huddersfield.

Kirklees Council and Business Link joined forces to stage Winning Ways: Access To Finance at the Galpharm Stadium.

The free event aimed to help companies with annual turnover between £1m and £20m to build better relationships with the banks and find finance to secure their businesses in the wake of the recession.

Delegates heard speakers from Yorkshire Bank, Royal Bank of Scotland and HSBC, Business Link, regional development agency Yorkshire Forward and the Leeds Financial Initiative.

They covered key topics such as how to approach you bank, financial forward planning, financial help for international trading and financial products or grants specific to Yorkshire businesses.

Charles Storr, of Kirklees Council’s regeneration and economic development service, said: “The aim was to help companies to navigate the financial landscape, create awareness of alternative financial products, grants and general financial business support.”
