THE chairman of Leeds Building Society will retire from the post at the mutual’s next annual meeting, it has been announced.
Robin Smith, who joined the board in 1998 and has been chairman for six years, will step down next March – shortly after his 70th birthday.
He will be succeeded by non-executive director Robin Ashton, 54, who joined the board in April last year.
Mr Ashton, who qualified as a chartered accountant with Coopers & Lybrand in Leeds, is chairman of the society’s board credit committee and a member of its group risk and assets and liabilities committees. He has spent his entire career in retail financial services.
