A Colne Valley day nursery has completed a move to bigger premises – with a little help from its bankers.

Little Explorers has occupied the former NHS clinic at Scar Lane with financial support from the RBS.

Nursery owner Leanne Gothard needed more room to meet increased demand for childcare in the area.

Little Explorers has achieved a “good” Ofsted rating since it opened in 2012 and its expansion has seen staff numbers rise to 19 as Leanne took on a pre-school teacher, three early years’ practitioners and a play worker for her after-school club.

Having larger premises means Leanne can increase her child places from 48 to 64 places – including 16 spaces for her after school club.

The building, which dates from 1868, has undergone an extensive refurbishment and renovation project to suit the needs of the growing business while retaining many of its period features.

Duncan Schofield, healthcare manager at RBS added: “It is rewarding to support a local business that will benefit so many local families looking to access first-class childcare.”
