INCREASED activity among manufacturers has provided a boost to employment prospects in Yorkshire, according to a survey today .

The latest report by recruitment firm Manpower said the Net Employment Outlook for the region has increased by 10% over the past three months to stand at plus 2% for the first quarter of 2013.

This is the first positive reading in the region for a year – with job opportunities in manufacturing and sales helping to drive the recovery.

The survey asks employers whether they plan to hire extra staff or reduce their workforce.

Nationally, the outlook for the jobs market stands at plus 6% compared with plus 3% for the final quarter of 2012.

Amanda White, operations manager at Manpower, said: “This upsurge in outlook is reassuring and puts the region back on the firmer footing that we saw this time last year.

“The boost has come from increasing activity levels within the manufacturing sector, which looks set to continue to grow.

“There is also demand for sales personnel, particularly candidates at a more senior level who can demonstrate solid experience.”
