JEWELLERY lovers are flocking to a Huddersfield boutique after an appearance on social networking site Facebook spawned a new business.

Necklaces made from recycled watches and other jewellery are chiming with shoppers at Kitten Heels in Byram Street.

The idea for creating the necklaces came to Kate Wood and Tiffany Pitchforth during a picnic at Bretton Hall Country Park.

Now their business, Saving Face, is winning new customers.

Kate, 38, who lives at Bradley, said: “We talked about putting together some statement pieces of jewellery with some of the items we have collected over the years. We both have magpie-like eyes for unusual bits and pieces.

“Once we started making, we found that we particularly enjoyed working with the vintage watches we had collected.

“Now each of our pieces includes a watch face.

“It has become our trademark and is where the name Saving Face came from.

“ It also echoes the recycled and ‘reloved’ aspect of the pieces.”

Tiffany 23, of Golcar, said: “We use a vintage watch in all our pieces and although they no longer work, they are still beautiful and brought to life again when they’re incorporated with other lovely pieces.

“Each of the pieces has a name that personalises it and adds to its exclusivity. We guarantee that no two pieces are the same”.

Claire Young, owner of Kitten Heels, said the items had created quite a stir.

She commented:: “We have had a lot of positive feedback on the collection.”

Kate and Tiffany both have day jobs – with Kate as a trainer and NVQ assessor for a Huddersfield training company while Tiffany manages a town centre boutique.

They both have degrees in design.

Now they are building a website to promote their pieces and commissioning service – www.saving-face.co.uk – after an appearance on Facebook won them 500 followers within a few days.

The two are also working hard to keep up with the expected demand.
