LOW-FARE airline Monarch reported a rise in traffic on flights to key holiday destinations.
The Luton-based carrier said average load factor – the proportion of seats filled on flights – rose by 0.21% to reach 82.04% last month compared with May last year.
Demand for seats to mainland Spain, Portugal and Gibraltar remained strong throughout the month while demand rose substantially for flights to “mid-haul” destinations such as Tenerife, Lanzarote and Larnaca.
Monarch carried 88% more passengers to Larnaca during May compared with the same month last year, 40% more passengers to Lanzarote, 20% more passengers to Tenerife and 32% more passengers to Menorca.
Monarch operates from Birmingham, Gatwick, Luton and Manchester.
