A PROJECT supporting people doing paid work from home has been extended to cover the whole of Kirklees.

The PERS Homeworking Service, part of Batley-based Pay & Employment Rights Service (Yorkshire) Ltd, was set up to help homeworkers who feel isolated or face problems of low pay, lack of employment status and poor or unsafe working conditions.

The project, based at Batley Enterprise Centre, has worked in the Dewsbury and Batley area for the past three years, but now has obtained funding to work throughout Kirklees, including Huddersfield.

Services include intensive one-to-one support from experienced development workers for people exploring self-employment or wanting to set up a business from home – with access to training, qualifications and courses; help with business planning, marketing, branding and promotion; and signposting for financial and legal advice.

Clr Mehboob Khan, leader of Kirklees Council, said: “I believe it will really benefit Kirklees residents.”
