SHOPPERS looked twice when they saw Perry the Pig take to the ice rink at Huddersfield’s Piazza.

But the pink pig is a star performer for Slaithwaite’s Piggyprint.com – and his appearance on the ice is just the latest in a series of stunts to promote the company.

Scott Gardner, of Piggyprint.com, said: “We launched the company just a year ago and chose the pig as our ‘mascot’. We ran a competition on Facebook to name the pig and from the suggestions we decided to call him Percy. After about three days, we were told we couldn’t do that because Marks & Spencer has registered the name for its children’s sweets range!”

The newly-named Perry was brought to life for a series of videos on the company’s website. The first saw Perry – improbably – buying a pork pie from a butcher’s shop. The second film will feature his exploits on the ice, thanks to co-operation from Kirklees Council.

Said Scott: “We have given Perry a profile on Facebook and at the last count he had 126 friends in just three weeks. People want to have their pictures taken with him – and one person even asked for his autograph!

“Although the idea is to use Perry as a marketing tool, we genuinely see him as part of the team.”

Piggyprint.com provides printed materials such as leaflets and business cards as well as offering digital printing and printed and embroidered clothing for the hospitality industry, hen nights and stag nights. It also undertakes website design and hosting.
