WORKERS have little faith in their career prospects and believe they will have to move to another firm to get a better job, research says.

Secrecy and poor communication about office promotions fuel workers' frustration, says the study by Investors in People.

A survey of 1,300 adults showed half believed their organisation's approach to promotion was a "mystery".

Three out of four said they were unsure about how they could progress their career and a third complained of being overlooked for a better job.

June Williams, director at Investors in People, said: " Employers aren't always in a position to offer promotion, but the way they handle this can have a huge impact on employee motivation.

"Bosses need to be much clearer about the opportunities available and create a clear plan of action to help employees achieve their goals."
