THE rise in house prices in Yorkshire is slowing, a new survey reveals.

Figures showed January had the slowest rate of house price growth since May last year, but prices continued to rise due to a lack of property on the market.

Nationally, the pace of price rises eased back to June levels - but were up for the 15th month running.

The January survey found 12% more estate agents reporting house price rises than reporting falling house prices. The December figure was 17%.

The survey by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors showed unsold properties on agents' books in Yorkshire at its lowest since August 2004.

Alex McNeil, of Bramleys in Huddersfield, said: "It has been a slow start to the new year with the same number of new instructions as last year. Buy enquiries and sales agreed are lower and the majority of sales are lower value property."
