TWO Huddersfield businesses are joining forces to help people start the year on a healthy footing.

The Pain Relief Centre at Longley and the Almondbury-based Elite Feet Podiatry are holding a free open day to check the state of people's backs and feet.

Georgina Oldfield, of The Pain Relief Centre, and Sharon Simpson, from Elite Feet Podiatry, will carry out individual assessments between 9am and 2pm on Saturday.

They will be at the Integrates Health and Dental Practice, Cote Royd House on Halifax Road, Edgerton.

Georgina said many aches and pains were caused by too little exercise, poor diet, poor posture and spending too long in the car or at a desk.

Some problems could result in hip, knee, foot and ankle pain.

She said: "We automatically look after our cars, making sure they have enough water, the right fuel and are used regularly, as well as sending them for annual checks.

"Yet how many of us do the same for ourselves? The new year is an ideal time to take stock and do what we can to remain fit and healthy."
