A HUDDERSFIELD firm was among the winners in a competition to honour Yorkshire’s outstanding online businesses.

Liquid Accounts, which provides accounting software for bookkeepers and the self-employed, won the prize for best application of internet technology in the Yorkshire Digital Awards hosted by regional development agency Yorkshire Forward at the Royal Armouries in Leeds.

The Slaithwaite-based company was also shortlisted in the category for best digital start-up.

Liquid Accounts was formed in 2006 by chartered accountant Jon Wright and software specialist Matt Holmes.

Managing director Mr Holmes said the company was delighted with its success in the awards, adding: “It shows that after three years of hard work we are doing something right.

“Our aim, despite being online, is to become the human face of accounting. We’re taking some of the latest internet and social networking ideas and combining them with our software to create tools that can really help you run your business.”

Other categories in the awards included ones for best IT consultancy, best business-to-business website and best business-to-consumer website.

Liquid Account’s success follows appearances this year at the Venturefest exhibition in York and the Business Start-Up Show in London.

The firm has also been named by Business Insider magazine as one Yorkshire’s top 50 innovative businesses for the second year running.
