TOP-RANKING firms in Yorkshire are in good health – but may lag behind their rivals across the Pennines when the economy improves, it is claimed.

Accountants BDO Stoy Hayward said the region’s top 150 companies, including 10 based in Kirklees and Calderdale, were in good financial health in the face of the credit crisis.

But it said firms in north-west England were performing better in terms of increased sales, tax-efficiency and lower borrowings.

It said: “For Yorkshire to come out of the credit crunch in a strong position, the region’s businesses need to change their outlook to become increasingly global.”
