RETAILERS are facing their worst conditions in three years with sales falling in five of the last six months, it emerged today.
A wet and dull August compounded the misery for long-suffering traders hoping for a summer boost – with like-for-like sales 1% lower than a year earlier.
The British Retail Consortium said food and drink was the only sector reporting significant sales growth with a slight improvement for clothing and footwear.
