A firm making kitchens for the affordable housing sector has launched a management training programme to help employees boost their career prospects.

Selection Training delivered the Institute of Leadership and Management Level 2 Award in Leadership and Team Skills to 25 members of the team at Dewsbury-based Rixonway.

The training was carried out over 20 one-day sessions to help team leaders and chargehands from the factory floor develop their skills, boost motivation and improve performance.

Training included a mixture of written and practical sessions to help trainees become stronger leaders and to motivate their teams to get the very best results, including training new employees to become more confident in their new roles.

Steve Bond, warehouse team leader at Rixonway, said: “This training gave all of us an opportunity to pinpoint areas of improvement and really work on our own management skills to provide better and more efficient ways of working for all employees.

“It’s important as a team leader to be able to bring out the very best in people and deliver the quality service customers come to expect and this training is vital in allowing us to be able to deliver this.”

David Anderson, sales and marketing director at Rixonway, said: “We are constantly looking at ways we can improve opportunities for our workforce and part of this is delivering high quality training for our employees, as this programme demonstrates.

“Investing in staff training benefits both Rixonway and our staff, as they are given the opportunity to further their careers and we continue to deliver the very best customer service to our clients.”

Rixonway, which has 500 employees, will be rolling out training programmes across different departments later in the year, including customer services, estimating, buying, transport and administration.

The company is one of the leading kitchen providers for social and affordable housing across the UK and manufactures more than 50,000 panels a week at its factory in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire.
