DEPARTMENT store chain House of Fraser said sales continued their “positive momentum” – despite economic uncertainty and the vagaries of the weather.

The group, which has a store at Kingsgate in Huddersfield and 63 stores in the UK and Ireland, overcame a soggy April to post lift like-for-like sales by 2.6% in the 13 weeks to April 28.

Stores rose by 3% in the financial year to January 28 while online takings were 92% higher. Underlying profits for the year fell by 16% to £58.6m, reflecting the cost of opening a second distribution centre.
