ONLINE dating group Easydate has been threatened with legal action over alleged trademark infringement.

The move has come from the easyGroup empire headed by Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou.

EasyGroup, which licenses the “easy” name to businesses including easyJet and easyCar, claimed Easydate was trying to pass itself off as being part of the brand and warned it to change the company name.

Edinburgh-based Easydate, set up by Bill Dobbie and his Ukrainian business partner Max Polyakov in 2005, has more than 9m members in the UK and overseas.

Sir Stelios said Easydate was taking “unfair advantage of the strong reputation” of his easy brand to gain an “undeserved commercial advantage”.
